Competitive cheerleading is a team sport that requires a high level of commitment from both athletes and parents/guardians. Consistent attendance is essential, as the absence of just one athlete can affect stunt groups, formations, choreography and the progress of the entire team.
By accepting a place with WSA and registering for the season, athletes and parents/guardians agree to follow the attendance policy below. These expectations are non-negotiable and apply equally to all athletes.
EXCUSED ABSENCES
- Family bereavement
- Illness involving vomiting
- School events
- Sporting competitions
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
- Homework or revision
- Birthdays
- Parties or concerts etc
- Holidays
THREE-STRIKE ATTENDANCE POLICY
WSA operates a three-strike attendance policy for unexcused absences.
Each unexcused absence will count as one strike. Three strikes during the season will result in the loss of the athlete’s place on their team(s).
Parents/guardians will be made aware when an unexcused absence has resulted in a strike so that there is a clear record throughout the season.
THE THREE WEEKS BEFORE COMPETITION
The three weeks leading up to a competition are an essential period of preparation. Athletes are expected to attend all scheduled training sessions during this period.
Where an athlete misses training during this period, the coaching team will determine whether they are sufficiently prepared to compete safely and confidently. Where necessary, the athlete may be removed from the competition roster.
REPORTING ABSENCES
If an athlete is unable to attend a training session, their coach must be informed as soon as possible.
Any known school events or sporting competitions that will affect training must be communicated to the coach at the start of the season wherever possible.
INJURY & ILLNESS
Athletes who are not 100%, or injured, are still expected to attend training, even if they are unable to physically participate. This allows them to observe routine changes, formations and new choreography and remain up to date with their team.
Athletes should not attend training if they have been vomiting, are contagious or are otherwise too unwell to safely participate.
Please remember: when one athlete is absent, it impacts the entire team.
